About Public Works Ale

Character. Craftsmanship. Community.
Having managed and worked our own farm for over a decade, we understand there’s just nothing better than the natural flavor and character of great ingredients. We find the very best ingredients and then let them express themselves without getting in the way of their true character.

With over 30 years of experience, our award-winning brewers bring a level of passion and pride to their work, that comes through in the quality of our finished product. Whether collaborating with other local brewers or sitting down to a cold one with friends, Public Works Ale is beer for the common good.

Brewing Philosophy

What makes our beer taste so damn good? Passion, pride and patience. It’s simple, but it’s not easy. It requires a commitment to using the best ingredients, the highest quality craftsmanship and taking the time to do it right.

Giving Back

A job worth doing, is a job worth doing right. That’s why we contribute 1% of our proceeds to a job training program in your community. By contributing to job training, we hope to give others the opportunity to contribute their skills and hard work to their community. After all, we’re all in this together.

About the Brewery

In an effort to be efficient with our resources so we can put our hard earned dollars toward paying our people a decent wage, buying great ingredients, and making the best product, we decided to build a cooperative brewery. Located in the heart of Baltimore, at the exact site of the former home of the Orioles baseball team until 1944, we take great pride in being a part of this city’s rich cultural history.
